HISTORY:

Earl and Ruth Anne entered Brazil in July, 1969.  They were raised in southwest Ohio and attended the Cincinnati Bible Seminary.  They are now completing thirty-nine (39) years of serving on the foreign mission field.  Since 1973 they have lived in Goiânia, Goiás a city of 1.5 million people and just three hours from Brasilia, the country’s capital. Marlon and Yara joined C.B.M. in 2003 when Marlon became the minister of the Novo Horizonte Church; the mother church of the ministry.  They are now being trained and discipled to lead the mission in the future.  They just spent a school year in the U.S. working with the Mandarin Christian School and Christ´s Church Mandarin in Jacksonville, Florida.

MISSION STATEMENT:

We base the philosophy of our ministry on Mathew 28:18-20 and Ephesians 4:7-16.  “ TO  MAKE  DISCIPLES,  MAKE  BETTER  DISCIPLES  AND  YOU  WILL  MAKE  MORE  DISCIPLES.”

NOVO HORIZONTE MINISTRY:

The  “Ministry of the Churches of Christ of Novo Horizonte”  is preparing God’s people for ministry.  Our main task is that of reaching others for Christ, making disciples of them and establishing and planting new churches by using our own trained national leadership.  This ministry has grown to over 45 churches and more than 6,000 members.  All of the churches have national Brazilian preachers and leaders.  And almost all of them have their own church building and properties.

MINISTRIES:

The Novo Horizonte Ministry involves many individuals and different projects for meeting the needs of people.  We have a Bible college, Bible institute and discipleship training programs.  A lot of emphasis is placed on “One-on-One Discipleship.”  We provide professional counseling services and different support groups. Our 100 acre Shalon Camp is used almost every weekend during the year.
Two growing and major projects that the C.B.M. is promoting and very much involved in are “Project Grow.”  and  “Project Amazonas:  Christ, Life and Health”

PROJECT  GROW:

“Project Grow”  was started in 1998 in Goiânia by Marlon.  He was a young man at that time studying theology but passionate for soccer.  There were 21 children in the project when it started.  Project Grow (Cultural Sport’s program for Children and Teenagers) was started because of the social problem among Brazilian children and their moral values.  Now after 10 years there are over 1,000 children involved in the project in three different locations:  Goiás, Rio de Janeiro and Amazonas.
OUR MISSION…..is to give these children the opportunity to dream of a better future.  OUR VISION….is to use sports as the principle tool to discipline, educate and give real meaning to the lives of these children.  OLYMPIC VILLAGE…is our next big goal.  A 20 acre piece of land near Goiânia was donated to Project Grow.  The village is to have three soccer fields, a skate track, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, classrooms, dining room, dressing rooms and a garden planted and cared for by the children.

PROJECT AMAZONAS:  CHRIST, LIFE AND HEALTH:

A boat was purchased and remodeled and has been used almost monthly for ten day trips since March, 2000 when we made our first trip.  This Amazon Boat Ministry is reaching and helping people that live in villages along the many tributaries of the Amazon River.  The boat has both a medical and dental clinic on it and sleeping quarters for about 20 people.  We take a doctor, dentist, nurse, construction crew and an evangelistic team on almost all trips.  We are providing better health and making possible a better life for these villagers as well as teaching them about Christ and planting churches.  During these eight (8) years we have treated hundreds of children and adults.  Many health problems have been solved, Christ has been preached, villages and lives transformed and churches started.  There are four (4) missionary families and a single lady working with this project besides four (4) native missionary families in remote villages.
In São Sebastiâo we have two other projects that are producing positive results.  The “Greenhouse Project” is helping church families with a better diet and health habits as well as producing a small income for each family.  “Project Grow” is reaching a number of children and transforming their lives by using the soccer ball.  This is a soccer program that develops character by teaching the children Biblical principles.
Many interested individuals from some of our supporting churches have come to help us on different trips.  We need this kind of cooperation as we plan to have at least 25 churches in the Amazon Region alone by the year 2010.

NEW  MEDICAL  BOAT  PROJECT:

God has been very good to us during these eight years.  He has directed us in where to go and how to make the best use of our boat.  We have had very positive results.  But the time has come for us to build a medical boat to meet the needs of what we are doing.  We have launched a campaign (BE ONE OF 1,000) to raise one million dollars ($1,000,000.00) for the construction of a new medical boat.  We are looking for one thousand (1,000) individuals that during a two-year period will give a thousand dollars ($1,000) to this project.  We would like to begin construction of this boat in early 2009.

Although regular, faithful, financial support is necessary to maintain this ministry and to reach our goals in the future, P R A Y E R is the key ingredient in all our plans.
