DEAR FAITHFUL C.B.M. PARTNERS, APRIL, 2011
We count it an honor and a privilege to be able to continue serving him here in Brazil. God has been very good to us over these many years and you have been faithful and used by him to help in this CBM Ministry. The Novo Horizonte Church celebrated her 37th birthday in March. We had a three
day weekend celebration with guest speakers and singers. The Church continues to grow under the leadership of Pastor Agostinho and his family. Also in March we had the Cincinnati Christian University Choir here for a few days performing and blessing our churches. They were also impressed with our new “School of Music” now functioning at the Novo Horizonte Church under the direction of Rafael.
I (Earl) conducted our first Amazon Ministry Seminar in São Sebastião the first week of March. Every first Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of each month all the Amazon Team comes to São Sebastião for training. We have classes in the morning, afternoon and at night for the three days.
There were 22 village leaders present for this first seminar.
The February Amazon Boat Ministry Trip was successful even though we are still using the old boat. We are hoping to be able to mark an inaugural date for the new boat after the April trip. We will keep you informed of the date. There will be trips each month now until December.
Please be praying for CBM President, Lynn Cleaveland, and his visit the last week of April. We will be working on “Job Description” contracts with each of our Brazilian missionary team.
We also need for you to continue to collect and send vitamins and “meds list” items to our
Forwarding Agent: Michael Haubner, 1751 Sterling Drive, McCoy, Virginia 24111. Our complete
Financial Report for 2010 is available to anyone interested.
Thanks again for your prayers and partnership with us in this ministry. Be sure and read Rafael´s report that is attached as well as the page of pictures.
And we continue with you …
Working For A Greater Harvest,
EARL AND RUTH ANNE
Christian Institute of Music and Missions – (ICMM)
A dream that becomes a reality. This is how Rafael Soares best describes the launch of ICMM in Brazil. With two campuses - one in Goiânia, established at the annex building of the New Horizons Church of Christ; and the second campus in Brasília, the national capital, established at the annex building of the Taguatinga Church of Christ. ICMM is a school in partnership with Central Brazil Mission and the Music Department of Cincinnati Christian University, offering a 4-year degree of Music, a 4-year degree of Missions, an English Immersion School and a Music Academy. With seven Professors (being two Americans: Andrew Hudnall, from Centerville, In. and Danielle Duvall, St. Louis, Mi.) and around 40 students enrolled in both campuses, ICMM is directed by Rafael Soares: a Brazilian Music Minister who left his attorney career to follow his call to Music Ministry and Discipleship. After living in the United States for four years, (2006-2010) where Rafael earned his Master’s Degree in Divinity with a concentration of Ministry (Music and Worship) at Cincinnati Christian University, and served as a Music Minister at Central Christian Church (Richmond, Indiana) and Worship Leader at Parkside Christian Church (Cincinnati, Ohio), Rafael is back in Brazil and is working hard administrating, teaching classes (Music Theory 1, Musicianship, Choir and all Voice Majors) and also recruiting new students for the school. Rafael, a well-known musician in Brazil, also teaches Vocal Technique for two famous church choirs and a secular Musical Theatre Company in Rio de Janeiro, twice a month. ICMM classes started on February 14 and the school already has a waiting list of students for the Fall Semester of 2011. “Everything happening is above all of our expectations. ICMM is definitely an amazing strategy from God’s plan to prepare a new generation of worshipers and ministers in Brazil”, explains Rafael.
One important event that marked the partnership between ICMM and Cincinnati Christian University was the CCU Brazil Concert Choir Tour, during the last two weeks of February 2011. The choir travelled to three different states in Brazil and presented eight concerts in many different churches. Professor Brenda Lang and some CCU students led music workshops at the COMIC – a Churches of Christ and Christian Churches youth conference. The main goal of this tour was to help launch and publicize ICMM and its partnership with Cincinnati Christian University. Future plans of this partnership includes master classes and projects with CCU Professors who will come to teach ICMM Brazilian students; ICMM Choir Tours in the United States and scholarships for Brazilian Students.
ICMM is working hard with enthusiastic students, dedicated professors and God’s inspiration. We need your help. You can help. From donations of money to buy our Grand Piano to donations of music sheets for our choir, all help is welcome. Send us an email at icmmbrasil@gmail.com and talk to Rafael Soares. God will bless you in amazing ways and you will help the formation of new missionaries and worship ministers.
