HISTORY:
Earl and Ruth Anne entered Brazil in July, 1969. They were raised in southwest Ohio and attended the Cincinnati Bible Seminary. They are now completing forty-one (41) years of serving on the foreign mission field. Since 1973 they have lived in Goiânia, Goiás a city of 1.5 million people and just three hours from Brasilia, the country’s capital. Marlon and Yara joined C.B.M. in 2003 when Marlon became the minister of the Novo Horizonte Church; the mother church of the ministry. Marlon is also the founder and director of Project Grow. They are now being trained and discipled to lead the mission in the future.
MISSION STATEMENT:
We base the philosophy of our ministry on Mathew 28:18-20 and Ephesians 4:7-16. “ TO MAKE DISCIPLES, MAKE BETTER DISCIPLES AND YOU WILL MAKE MORE DISCIPLES.”
NOVO HORIZONTE MINISTRY:
The “Ministry of the Churches of Christ of Novo Horizonte” is preparing God’s people for ministry. Our main task is that of reaching others for Christ, making disciples of them and establishing and planting new churches by using our own trained national leadership. This ministry has grown to over 50 churches and more than 6,000 members. All of the churches have national Brazilian preachers and leaders. And almost all of them have their own church building and properties.
MINISTRIES:
The Novo Horizonte Ministry involves many individuals and different projects for meeting the needs of people. We have a Bible college, Bible institute and discipleship training programs. A lot of emphasis is placed on “One-on-One Discipleship.” We provide professional counseling services and different support groups. Our 100 acre Shalon Camp is used almost every weekend during the year.
A new ministry, “Christian Institute of Music and Missions” will begin next year (2011). Rafael Soares, who has studied at the Cincinnati Christian University (CCU) the last 4 years will direct this ministry under the supervision of the CBM Board of Directors. The institute will also have CCU representatives helping organize and operate this ministry. Besides Rafael there will be three (Drew, Lyndsay and Dani) U.S. teachers coming to work at the institute.
Two growing and major projects that the C.B.M. is promoting and very much involved in are “Project Amazonas: Christ, Life and Health” and “Project Grow.”
PROJECT AMAZONAS: CHRIST, LIFE AND HEALTH:
A boat was purchased and remodeled and has been used almost monthly for ten day trips since March, 2000 when we made our first trip. This Amazon Boat Ministry is reaching and helping people that live in villages along the many tributaries of the Amazon River. The boat has both a medical and dental clinic on it and sleeping quarters for about 20 people. We take a doctor, dentist, nurse, construction crew and an evangelistic team on almost all trips. We are providing better health and making possible a better life for these villagers as well as teaching them about Christ and planting churches. During these ten (10) years we have treated hundreds of children and adults. Many health problems have been solved, Christ has been preached, villages and lives transformed and churches started. There are three (3) missionary families and a single lady working with this project besides eight (8) native missionary families in remote villages. There are now 16 “Project Amazon” churches in different villages and we probably have another 5 new villages right now waiting and wanting a church.
In São Sebastião we have three other projects that are producing positive results. The “Greenhouse Project” is helping church families with a better diet and health habits as well as producing a small income for each family. A new “Wood Working Project” was just started this past year and is providing jobs for families in the church. “Project Grow” is reaching a number of children and transforming their lives by using the soccer ball. This is a soccer program that develops character by teaching the children Biblical principles.
Many interested individuals from some of our supporting churches have come to help us on different trips. We need this kind of cooperation as we plan to have at least 25 churches in the Amazon Region alone by the end of 2011.
NEW MEDICAL BOAT PROJECT:
God has been very good to us during these ten years. He has directed us in where to go and how to make the best use of our boat. We have had very positive results. But the time came for us to build a new medical boat to meet the needs of what we are doing. We launched a campaign (BE ONE OF 1,000) in 2008 to raise one million dollars ($1,000,000.00) for the construction on this new medical boat. In June 2009 construction on this new boat was begun. We are still in need of more funds to complete and furnish the boat. Our hope right now is that the “CBM Amazonia” medical boat will be ready for use in early 2011.

“ REACHING THE WORLD THROUGH SOCCER “
WHAT IS PROJECT GROW........
Project Grow was started in 1998 in Goiânia, Goiás by Marlon Brito. Marlon at that time was a young man studying theology but passionate for soccer. There were 21 children in the project when it started. Project Grow (Cultural Sports Program for Children and Adolescent) was started because of the social problem among Brazilian children and their moral values. Now after 12 years there are over 1000 children involved in the project in three different locations: Goiás, Rio de Janeiro and Amazonas.
PROJECT GROW´S MISSION…… is to give these children the opportunity to dream of a better future.
PROJECT GROW´S VISION…….is to use soccer as the principle tool to discipline, educate and give real meaning to the lives of these children.
PROJECT GROW´S PROGRAM……
SOCCCER: This is the main instrument used. Here the children learn fundamental values, rules, discipline and working together as a team through playing soccer!
COURSES: Besides the soccer program the children are involved in courses like Bible, English, computer, arts and others.
SKATE: Skate Boarding is the fastest growing sport in the world and we have many children in this program. The children primarily learn how to handle radical maneuvers and discipline.
SUCCESS AND TESTIMONIES: Some of the fruits from Project Grow are beginning to appear. Besides teens learning the importance of and how to study, others are finding good jobs, their lives are being changed and even more: Like Elcinho who received a scholarship to study and play soccer at the Oklahoma Baptist University in the U.S.
